About the PCs for MAINE project...

What We Do ...

The PCs for MAINE computer access and literacy project was created to help people with low incomes overcome the normally high cost of a personal computer, while providing technical support and training. The objective is to increase their technical skills, and thus improve hireability and personal income.

In just 6 years we have distributed over 1780 computer systems for this purpose.

The average entry level participation fee has been held down to $168/system because of generous gifts of licensing and equipment and strong volunteerism. These systems are used by more than 3800 people!

In 2005, the PCs for MAINE project put an estimated $1.4 Million in technology back into Maine - only $83,000 came from our program participants.

ITE is NOT a tax-funded program - it depends on businesses who donate great equipment, volunteers who give lots of time to others and and other agencies and non-profit groups who help us locate people who need our help so they can help themselves.
